Ensemble Altera is always interested in welcoming new singers from a range of backgrounds and perspectives into the group for future projects. Although we prefer applicants with considerable experience in ensemble and solo singing, we remain open to discovering and nurturing musicians who may be at an earlier stage in their career development. Regardless of how impressive a singer's pedigree may be, we understand that many artists follow unusual and unique paths, and that all of these routes to musical excellence are valid. Our main concern is a beautiful, well produced voice, a high level of natural and learned musicianship, including accurate sight reading, the ability to blend the voice appropriately within an ensemble context, and vocal versatility and control. We also seek artists who are passionate about the choral repertoire, who are highly motivated to help educate our audience and community, and who are driven to help make our projects a success.
Interested singers should send the following materials to be considered:
1. CV with all relevant solo and choral experience detailed
2. Electronic recordings of two solo arias or art songs in contrasting styles, with at least one drawn from the sacred or early repertoires. You may also include an additional recording of one-to-a-part ensemble singing where your voice is audible and transparent if you feel this reflects well. These recordings should demonstrate varying vocal weights, colors, flexibility, and dynamic control
3. An electronic recording of a demonstration of vocal range, with a vocal scale on a vowel of your choosing, throughout the most comfortable parts of your voice, with a dynamic and spin appropriate to a choral context
4. Link to personal website (if applicable)
